Rai Swensen

Family Resources Coordinator

Raishawn Swensen (Rai) is a Family Resource Coordinator and has a passion for children. She has worked as an Early Childhood Educator for five years and has an associate degree from Pierce College as well as certificates in Administration for Early Childhood Education and Infant and Toddler education. Rai also attended North Seattle College, where she is finishing her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and where she focused her studies on Anti Bias Anti Racist education. She found community in this cohort with an emphasis on Trauma informed and intentional teaching. It was here, at North Seattle College, where her instructors, in seeing her potential, encouraged her to continue her education and shoot for the stars! Rai plans to have her PhD in Early Childhood Education and hopes to change the way young children’s education is taught focusing on viewing families from a non-bias lends to give the exceptional support.

Rai also has a son who has received services. This first-hand knowledge offers her the ability to connect with families in a more personal way. “I love that I get to see children’s growth and be able to support and educate the families on their own terms and time. It’s encouraging to be able to help empower families to take control of their services.”

Rai has been married for six years to an amazingly supportive person and they have two beautiful children. Her amazing and supportive family has encouraged her every step towards the Early Childhood Education field.

Rai’s most important life plan is to make a legacy for her children by creating safe spaces in the classrooms, Childcare centers, Outreach sites, Community spaces and every place that serves children and families. This must encourage diversity, representation, and a community for every family that never thought they would be heard, seen, or loved.
